People’s Choice Contest – Best of 2017 | Holly, Michigan Photographer

So I admit – I’ve been dragging my feet a bit in doing this blog post! Why, you ask? I just always have such a hard time narrowing down my photos from the previous year and picking “my favorites.” Because truly, all of my images are “my favorites!”

And every year, I just can’t believe ANOTHER year has gone by. It has now been 11 years! Huh? How did that happen?

I can’t believe a little girl with a neon green, Teenage-Mutant-Ninja Turtle camera took an interest and made it into a passionate profession! It constantly and consistently blows my mind that each person wants ME to take their photos and capture their precious memories. It really means the world to me. I feel so very fortunate to be able to spend so much time with people who value my work and trust me to capture the most important events in their lives

When those people step in front of my camera, whether it be for a half hour or a whole day, they become my everything. I want to give the very best photos possible!

And here is a little way for me to say THANK YOU!

Voting will begin today and end at 11:00 a.m. on January 23rd – exactly 7 days. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places :)

Whoever receives the most votes, will receive a 16×20 canvas of the winning image as well as a free full in-studio or on-location session of their choice! The winning image will also be used on my Web site – www.photosbymcdonald.com – as well as be used for my business cards!

The second place winner will receive an 11×14 mounted print of the winning image and half-off an in-studio or on-location session. Third place will also receive half-off an full in-studio or on-location session as well!

So get out there and tell all of your family and friends to come over and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! It’s my way of giving each and every one of you a great big hug for all you’ve done. I can’t wait to see who wins and what the next year will bring!

(Now keep in mind, voters can only vote ONCE from each computer, so it’s fair. And I’d love to hear your thoughts! Leave me a message or subscribe to receive my blog updates (over on the right-hand side under “email subscription”.) I’d love to keep in touch with each and every one of you!

So I’m calling this a highlight of 2017 … images that I chose that reflect what type of photographer I am as well as images that simply make me smile. I simply can not wait to see what 2018  will bring.   Thank you to my sweet clients of 2017! Your unbelievable support has been absolutely priceless.

The Zerwick Family | Holly, Michigan Family Photographer

I absolutely adore this family!  They not only braved 18-degree weather for their family photos but had a blast while doing it!

I’ve taken Chelsea and Zach’s senior photos, so I knew how great it was going to be. The funny part was, Tonya wanted just a light dusting of snow – her wish was granted – with over a foot!

Thank you Zerwick family for making my job extra awesome!

Baby Benjamin | Holly, Michigan Newborn Photographer

Is there anything more precious than a brand, new baby?  I think not!

Family of the Civil War | Holly, Michigan Family Photographer

When someone you know does Civil War reenactments and wants to have photos taken, this photographer girl jumps for joy! Quite literally. Just ask Christa!

Her and her children travel Michigan throughout the year, attending these reenactments, including those at Port Sanilac, Greenfield Village and historic Fort Wayne. I can’t imagine how much fun that must be!

I admit, I’ve never been much of a history buff, but there’s something about the Civil War that’s so intriguing.

I can’t even begin to imagine how different things must have been and all of the hardships people went through.  Four years of intense combat left 620,000 to 750,000 soldiers dead, a higher number than the number of American military deaths in both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan combined! Not to mention, much of the South’s infrastructure was destroyed.

Naturally, when we set a date to do these photos, I was super pumped. I love doing something different and something I can be creative with. I was online researching the Civil War and looking up old photographs for inspiration. I think my husband through I had gone batty!

Thank you Christa for sharing this amazing experience with me. I hope you all had as much fun with it as I did!

The S Family | Rochester Hills, Michigan Family Photographer

Have I mentioned how much I love candids?  I think I may have mentioned that a time or two before 😉

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE when families are relaxed, interact and let me do my thing!

The S Family was amazing! It was like a little get-together and I just happened to be there to document it.

We let the kids play and just snuck in some photos here and there. What a wonderful afternoon!

The M Family | Holly, Michigan Family Photographer

Isn’t this family gorgeous? They came all the way from Australia to have me take their photos!

Ahem … OK, not REALLY, but they were in Michigan visiting family and came to see me too!

The first time I met them was four years ago and Mackenzie was only one! Time sure does have a way of running away with me. Last time I saw Sailor, she was not even walking! Just look at her big grins! Adorbs.

The T Family | Highland, Michigan Family Photographer

I just love this family – seriously! Just look at how photogenic they are!

I was lucky enough to have their daughter as my senior spokes model a few years back (can you say gorgeous?!) and I was so happy to see them again for family photos. This time I got to meet a very special member of their family that I hadn’t previously – Rusty! OMG. How cute is he?! Just look at his little bow tie!

They were so good about my antics and didn’t look at me like I was crazy when I had them hug, sit on the ground or lay on their bellies 😉

Tony and Tracy not only wanted updated photos, but celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary the day of our session! Such an inspiration!

Meredith and Rob | Waterford, Michigan Wedding Photographer

I just loved Meredith and Rob’s style! So sweet and kind, this couple’s wedding celebration was so much fun to photograph!

Opting to have a small civil wedding in the spring, this was the big party for family and friends, and I was the lucky girl chosen to photograph it!

We took photos just outside the Waterford Oaks Activity Center, where the celebration took place. I just loved all the special little touches they added to their day and Rob’s grandmother made their wedding cake! How awesome is that?

Thank you Meredith and Rob for having us! It means so much to me and I hope you cherish the photos for years and years to come!

The Wedding of Tina and Jack | Rochester, Michigan Wedding Photographer

I couldn’t have asked for a better wedding and couple to kick off my 2017 wedding season with! Tina and Jack were everything a photographer could hope for: so incredibly sweet and kind as well as easy going!

Their ceremony and reception was held at the gorgeous Royal Park Hotel that gave us so many opportunities for beautiful photographs!

Tina almost didn’t want “getting ready” photos and I basically begged her to let me do them! I’m so glad she did! I love detail photos and we had so much fun with her, her daughter, mom and friends before the “first look” and ceremony. I was pretty excited to catch some special moments between her and her daughter that I hope they can cherish forever.

All three of their children were involved and I found myself taking almost as many photos of them as the happy couple! Such cuties!

Thank you so much Tina and Jack for having us photograph your wedding! Congrats!

The H Family | Holly, Michigan Family Photographer

Ahhh and awwww! I LOVE families! And when I get to take family photos in one of my favorite places to photograph – downtown Holly – it’s 2x better!

This family was just the sweetest! Skylar and Rylee were as cute as could be and I wanted to take them home! And just look at their outfits – adorbs!
